TaxBit, a tax and accounting software company, grew from 50 to 260 employees across four cities in just one year. To maintain their culture during this rapid growth, 70 employees participated in focus groups to establish five core cultural principles.
Through intimate group discussions from May to July 2022, team members from Salt Lake City, Seattle, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. collaborated to define what guides TaxBit's culture. They explored questions about best work practices, areas for improvement, and organizational aspirations.
The process resulted in five key cultural principles:
- Maximize Impact
- Owner's Mindset
- Transparency
- Optimistic Realist
- Win Together

Six company values icons
These principles now shape TaxBit's operations in several ways:
- Inclusive hiring practices that welcome diverse backgrounds and perspectives
- Weekly company-wide meetings and Friday celebration meals across all locations
- Employee resource groups, starting with the TaxBit Inclusion Network
- Cultural celebrations like Diwali and Native American Heritage Month
- Open communication regardless of job title or tenure

The company emphasizes transparency in all operations, reflecting both their cultural values and the core principles of blockchain technology. This approach has created an environment where employees feel empowered to contribute ideas and take ownership of their work.
TaxBit defines impact through a unique equation: IMPACT = SMART RISKS + EFFORT + RESULTS + LESSONS LEARNED
